Roon manages digital music files collected on hard drives and network attached storage. It can also view your iTunes library and offers the option to integrate with the Tidal and Qobuz music streaming services. Roon identifies your music and adds rich metadata – reviews, biographies, tour dates, lyrics, photos, and artist and composer credits – allowing you to discover new music and revisit old favorites.
Roon is a music playback and management solution that offers a different approach to enjoying your music. Rather than displaying your music like iTunes and nearly all other media systems, Roon offers a rich visual and album art-based experience, and uses attribution, artist affiliations, genres, lyrics, concert/tour dates, artwork, and more to enable informative navigation and exploration of your library.
Roon also bypasses the host computer's operating system, ensuring optimal sound quality is delivered for ultimate listening pleasure.
In order to use Roon, Roon Core must be running on the same network as your Formation products. Instructions for installing and setting up Roon Core can be found on the Roon website. After starting up, there are a few short steps to follow so that Formation products can work with Roon. A Roon Core is the device that the software runs on!
In the Roon menu, you can go to Settings and then select the Audio submenu. In this menu, you will see all Formation products in the Roon ready section.
Once all devices are activated, they are considered Roon zones and the name of the room applies to them as such. Once all rooms are activated, they are available in the Roon main menu as zones to play sound in.
WHAT DOES ROON READY MEAN?
Roon Ready means that the device is suitable for playing with Roon. Not every network player or other source is suitable for playing via Roon. To see if a device is suitable for playing with Roon, there is a list of all devices that are Roon Ready: Partners of Roon
The devices that are certified by Roon will also receive the logo Roon Ready and/or Roon Tested. The manufacturers of this product will also be kept informed by Roon from now on for new developments within Roon. In this way, manufacturers are able to keep the equipment compatible with Roon.
